About Strange Hosiery

A lot of people have asked me "Why Strange Hosiery?" Well, for reasons even I don't understand, I started to notice an odd trend in hosiery packaging. Calling it an infantilization of women isn't quite right but it's that direction. Basically I started to realize, through many hours of careful thrift shopping and flea marketing, that hosiery packaging was well, unusually bizarre (I hate to use official anthropological terms like that, but as a self-determined cultural anthropologist that's just how I am), not to mention just a tad demeaning to women when you really look at it.

Graphic designers of just about every era seem to think that hosiery makes women do all kinds of strange things like walk around topless or go hunt down carp and while I don't think we need to call Gloria Allred just yet, my feeling was, if they're allowed to create packaging this patronizing, I'm allowed to not only make fun of it but monetize that fun.

So enjoy Strange Hosiery and think of me when you buy that next pair of hose.
